United Way Softball Benefit

On a cool but perfect evening at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton, The New England Patriots took the field to play a charity softball game for the United Way. For the first ever Kevin Faulk Celebrity Softball tournament, proceeds benefited Acadiana in Lafayette, Louisiana, Faulk's home town. And while Kevin Faulk's Red Team won with a two-run single in the bottom of the fifth, Acadiana and the spectators were the true winners.

Prior to the game, there was a VIP Tailgate Party with the Patriots players, who were gracious and fun with eager fans. Among the players present were Kevin Faulk, Ty Warren, Vince Wilfork, Rosevelt Colvin, Ellis Hobbs, Randal Gatt, Matt Cassel, Ben Watson, Laurence Maroney, Mel Mitchell, Wes Welker, and Marquise Hill. Alumni players included Doug Flutie, Don Davis, Scott Zolak, and Max Lane, who pitched. Kevin Faulk's son learned it wasn't easy to get by Vince Wilfork, and fans had a chance to bid on auction items relating to the New England Patriots.

The softball game was five innings and included a surprise appearance by Tedy Bruschi. There was plenty of scoring action but also good humor during and in-between innings. Turning the tables, umpires Laurence Maroney and Jarvis Green took turns kicking dirt on the players. Opposing players up at bat were known to run into the outfield to congratulate the outfielders on simple catches.

The End Zone Militia donated to the silent auction a spot on the field for the upcoming New England Patriots versus Philadelphia Eagles game to two fans. These fans (click on photo to left to expand) will join The End Zone Militia as they tailgate and then cheer on the Pats from the sidelines.

These ladies were ecstatic enough to join us on the sidelines during the game for a photo opportunity, plus scheduling of what everyone was going to eat during the tailgate.

All in all, it was a good time for a good reason, and the End Zone Militia would like to thank The Brockton Rox for hosting the event, Kevin Faulk and the Patriots for participating, the two fans who bid on the auction to join us at a Patriots game, and to the public for coming out for the United Way.
